If you have never heard a message by L.B. Hicks you have missed out! I only wish that I would have had the opportunity to hear him preach while he was living. Unfortunately I never had that chance, but I do enjoy hearing recordings of him preach. He was an orator, and a man who preached with fervency.
This message was recorded in 1959 to the best of my knowledge. He preached this message at the Cadle Tabernacle camp meeting in Indianapolis Indiana. This was a huge campmeeting – which unfortunately is no longer in operation.
Click here to listen to “This is That.” His text was from Acts 2.
I go to Ashland First church of the Nazarene. Im the youth pastor here. And L.B Hicks is still loved. We named our Foyer after him. I love this sermon.

Are there any more recordings of this Wonderful Man of God? This is as alive today, as it was in the day of its recording.

This is my first time on your site and after looking over so many sermons I would’ve loved to listen to… I finally settled on this one and am so glad I did. This message is so on point for today, the Holy Ghost is so faithful. He’s already given the clarion call long time ago…and yet the message is as fresh today as it was when brother Hicks was moved on by the Holy Ghost. I’m amazed and so thankful the Lord led me here. How we need this passion that’s on this brother. Oh I have been so blessed by this message, and can only pray that God gets a hold of me like this. I’ll certainly come back here often.
I knew L.B. Hicks. When he pastored Ashland, Ky., First Nazarene my great grandparents were members. He then became the Superintendent of the East Ky District of the Church of the Nazarene. He was a wonderful man, and someone I count among my mentors. He always gave me sage counsel. Always kind to me, he often gave me books. His death was a loss for this world. I saw him preach many times, and often would tell a simple illustration that had the entire congregation in tears.
As a teen ager at Mt. Carmel High School Rev John Andrus would play Dr. Hicks’ camp meeting/revival sermons on Sunday afternoons. How enriched my life was. I have on reel to reel tape several of his great sermons. How rich! What a gift!
Great sermon! How I wish that preaching like this was still to be found among Nazarene churches and especially among Nazarene colleges. May the fire of God burn anew in the hearts of Nazarene leaders for the glory of God.
My first time to hear L.B. Hicks. I will be searching for more of his sermons. Enjoyed it greatly.
I had the honor of serving as Dr. Hicks assistant at Chattanooga First and he was truly one of the most outstanding ministers in our church. He used to comment that he asked God to make him a New Testament preacher, and in my opinion his prayer was answered in wonderful way. Thank God for these recordings that will enable so many to benefit from Dr. Hicks ministry.
I grew up in KY and family attended the Ashland First Church under Bro Hicks as our pastor. He was the kindest man I’ve ever met. Definitely a man of prayer.
Praise the Lord for that good preaching
