Thanks for posting Dad’s sermon. I have the set of six sermons he had recorded over the years of deputation and retirement ministry. He retired in 1972 and went on to the Lord in September, 1989. In between he preached literally “a thousand” times across the US. I have his record-keeping book of where and what he preached across those years.
The greatest heritage in holiness I received in my formative years, was his life and the love he had for the Lord and passion he lived for missions. He would often say, his AFRICAN name as a boy was “RED ROOSTER” because of his hot temper. But one night in a revival service before he reached his teens, he went down to an old log alter and was sanctified. He said that the Holy Spirit was the only solution that could ‘cure’ his temper.
God bless your work in preserving the classics for posterity! Elmer’s great-grandkids heard him preach because of you.
Dennis Schmelzenbach
PS: I was “his boy” that was behind him with the black mamba in this sermon.
hello.
i loved this sermon by your father, elmer schmelzenbach. as a lifelong member of the church of the Nazarene, i have admired deeply the work of your grandfather and grandmother, both of the present “harmons”, and their wives, but had not heard any of your father’s sermons until now. i have found photographs of harmon & lula schmelzenbach, harmon III, i believe, and, i believe, harmon IV
(now serving in the fiji islands), online, but none of your father.
is there a photograph available?
i just discovered a book online that was written by your grandmother in 1936 or ’46, and am delighted to read it. from what i understand in piecing together the stories of Nazarene mission work and of your family in particular, i have gathered the missionaries in your family line to be harmon, sr. > elmer > harmon III > harmon IV. if so, perhaps a child born to harmon & lula schmelzenbach was named harmon? is this correct?
blessings,
rebecca
Dennis,
I am trying to secure permission from you and your family to put your dad’s 6 sermons on CD. I am looking for these in my old tapes I have stored away in my house. I have one of the origionals and 3 duplicates but would prefer all of the origionals.
When I went into associate ministry in the Church of the Nazarene your dad came and held a revival service in Watonga, OK. We had a great time, he in his sixties and I in my twenties. My own grandfathers were evangelists and traveled all over the country in those days like your dad.
I attend Bethany First Church and we are involved with Swaziland. We send work and witness teams over there on a regular basis. I thought it would be good to let our people hear about our early days over there.
Please e-mail me at mark6540@sbcglobal.net and let me know how I can proceed on this.
God bless you!

I stumbled upon your website while looking for information on RT Williams. I pastor the Cenchrea Church of the Nazarene not too far from the site where he has sanctified. Our area Nazarene Churches hold a campmeeting every summer at Fort Jesup where the tabernacle is named after him and so I was trying to learn more about his life and the great legacy of holiness that he left behind.
I have really enjoyed listening to and being challenged by the messages of these tremendous holiness men of God. Thank you so much for this site and for sharing these resources with us.

My brother and I grew up hearing the Schmelzenbach sermons and stories played over and over. My dad knew Harmon and his family. We are hoping to find copies of the sermons/stories to play for our children and was wondering where do I find something like that. If you know and could tell me, that would be amazing!
Thanks.

I would love to obtain the full set of Elmer’s deputation messages. i once had about 3 given to me by an old time preacher. Somewhere in my moves across the country, they were lost. When I had them and listened I was encouraged and enlightened by how God moved in that time. Please tell how to get more of these messages.
